Pudu Jail will soon become a history

The demolition of Pudu Jail first started in October 2009. Standing over a century, this historical building finally have to be demolished for the purposes of shopping mall and road expansion.

Pudu Jail was built by the British in 1895 to house the criminals including drugs offenders, and it was also the place for caning. This prison was closed in November 1996. After that, it has been opened to the public for a short time.

Pudu Jail going to turn into a shopping mall?

According to Sudirman Kamal, an engineer from Khairi Consult Sdn Bhd, the land of Pudu Jail has been bought by UDA from government. A small part will contribute to build a road or tunnel in order to fix the traffic jam problem. However, the remainder of the jail site will be used to construct a mix development shopping mall or residential buildings.

The project of building a road or tunnel is expected to cost RM83 million as mentioned by Syahrul Nizam, a technical assistant for Kuala Lumpur’s City Hall (DBKL).

The demolition of Pudu Jail have brought out some objection, however, it won’t change anything in the development project.
